What's on Your Nightstand?

Lovely Kate of the wonderful and oftentimes hilarious (seriously - check this post out) The Goodie Life asked me to participate in this series - and I said, why of course. Just like that.

When you have a moment, do stop by... I have a few more pictures and words about my nightstand over there.

(Peek of gorgeous handmade lovelies: framed photo by Cara, ruffled bowl by Denise, sequined bracelet by Emma, little notebook by Katrina, lavender eye pillow by Allison.)

  1. I have that same book (Thrifty Chic)! Hold on, let me run upstairs and put it on top of my heap of nightstand books. Nope, still not as pretty as your set up there.

  2. various books, my alarm clock which i never have to set, a lamp - but i have to say, me talk pretty one day is one of the best books!

  3. I loved seeing your night stand! What a cool garage sale find - who cares that it isn't perfect. That's usually how I like things, imperfect that is :)
My night stand is so small and I wish it was a little bigger so I could put more pretty things on it.

  5. i just cleaned up my nightstand area last week, it was overrun with magazines and books, spilling all over the floor. now there's just a lamp, a clock and some hand cream. plus books on the floor, but in a much neater and smaller pile than before :) your spot looks pretty!

  6. Your night stand is so pretty--I love the color especially! My nightstand is very similar to your, as in, it's always over flowing with books and magazines (in fact, I think I'm going to place Me Talk Pretty One Day on my nightstand right now so I can re-read it!). Also on my nightstand is a lamp, alarm clock, and a small bowl to place ponytail holders and bobby pins. Oh and my glasses go there once I'm finished reading for the night.

  8. It's nice to see that someone else has a nightstand filled with books and magazines! My husband asks why I have all this when I can't possibly be reading all of it at once! I guess I just love to be surrounded by books! A little basket helps organize some of it and a huge basket on the floor holds magazines that I haven't gotten too. All for the love of the written word!

Hope you are having a wonderful wee, Maria!

    xoxo

  9. I don't have one! I really want a little white, chippy table to finish out the room (along with a white, chippy door to lean against another wall) I'm sure if I did have one it would be piled high with various things.
p.s. Starting a giveaway tomorrow so be sure to stop by!

  10. What a unique, inspiring post. I went over to Kate's blog to read the whole story. Beautifully written. :) I love how you keep items that you hold close to your heart on your nightstand. I do the same thing on mine. I also have a very small, chippy, vanilla colored pedestal table that my mom had gotten from my grandmother. I keep it very simple since it's so small- a slender lamp, ceramic bowl from a past vacation with a candle in it, single flower my husband gets me once a week, and a lavender sachet made from one of my fav etsy sellers. Just looking at my nightstand makes me warm and cozy.

Thanks for the sweet words over at my blog. It is always a joy to hear from you.

    Sending you sunshine,
    Bonnie

  11. maria-
your nightstand is so pretty (and real--love the stacks of books and catch-all bowl). i was so happy to spy the lavender eye pillow i made! seeing it was just the mid-week perk-up that i needed. and i'm also glad to hear that the extra pillow found a home. it sounds like a good one!
my nightstand is actually a small bookshelf, so it is nothing but books, books, and more books. the book i read before bed usually ends up on the floor because of lack of space. oh, and one shelf holds my clutch purse collection. i think it's much different from most nightstands.

  12. Just when I thought you could not get any better...L.O.V.E David Sedaris-- just what I need to clear my mind, unwind , and laugh before hitting the hay too!

Kate wrote such a lovely (and true!) introduction to your blog. I never really thought about gleaning peace through the internet until I happened across your blog.

  26. Hi Maria,

Your photograph frames your nightstand perfectly. I love the hint of bed and pillow and the cropped lamp. I have somehow lost my lavender eye pillow and need a new one. Now I know where to go. Thank you. My husband loved The Year of Magical Thinking, but I keep avoiding it. I've been the same way about Calvin Trillin's About Alice. I've accepted the tears that have accompanied many books I've read, I've grown from those tears, but when they are centered around the loss of a spouse I find it so difficult. Have you read The Year of Magical Thinking yet? Let me know what you think.

    xx,
    Denise

  28. Oh my nightstand always reflects the state my brain is in.. :) A scary but entertaining mirror..

Right now books, hand cream (always), big bottle of water (always), tissues, mosquito spray (we live in Sydney..), various gifts from my kids, soft light lamp, my daughter's asthma medication, diary & idea book, several pens.. Japp, I know, it sounds like I am talking about my office here... :)

    Lovely post and links..

    Big hug

  29. Hi Maria,
This is such a good idea! I absolutely love David Sedaris, oh my goodness, I literally was crying laughing one day on the train reading 'dress your family in corduroy and denim', so funny. His sister Amy is brilliant too! x
