Hi. Hello, there.

I've been absent. So very, very absent from this little space. I know. But life has been incredibly busy - in the best of ways. So... where do I start?

The hydrangeas are in full bloom. We have corn and tomatoes from our garden, and the sunflowers are taller than we are, and we have to squint our eyes when we look up at their smiling faces. It's been hot. Really hot. And it has rained and rained in the evenings, and stormed and thundered much. Summer is unapologetically here.

Noah's nose has sprouted the faintest, most endearing collection of freckles as he spends most of his days outdoors. They dance around his face when he smiles, and I have moments when I look at him and he simply just takes my breath away. He's so grown-up; such a beautiful, beautiful boy. He is both excited and a little nervous about starting first grade come August.

I have met with a couple of new design clients and that has been great fun. My job at the nonprofit has been busy with five-year goal plans and lots of meetings about them.

The house is still on the market - we had a low offer in the beginning, which for obvious reasons did not work out. I am, oddly enough, not stressed about it, though. I truly believe things happen for a reason, so if the house doesn't sell this year, then we'll try again next year. The goal will remain to downsize, but it doesn't have to happen this month, or two months from now, or by the fall, or even before the holidays... We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

In the meantime, the woman who grew up in our house, her daughter and granddaughter will all be here in July to celebrate their birthdays at the house. I am really excited about that and hope that we will make a little video and take many photos of what I am certain will be a very special evening.

As always, I keep dragging outcasts home. Maybe I'll use this at the little house if it all works out this year. Or maybe I'll use it in a client's home. But this kitchen cabinet from the 20's was far too special to be left to rot in a dumpster. It needs some work (and don't we all?), but it will be a beauty again with a little bit of love.

And... that's about it in a nutshell, my friends. Things are busy, busy, busy, and it is all good. Like I was telling dear Bonnie when she emailed to check in - between new clients, my little job at the nonprofit, being mama to Noah, head grocery-shopper and main cook at the house, something had to give - and it has been the blog. For now.

I do hope this post finds you well and happy, enjoying life wherever you may be. The next couple of months promise to be just as busy as this one, so I am not sure how present I will be in this space. But know that I think of you often and wonder how you are and sincerely hope that life is treating every single one of you kindly. Take good care of yourselves and your loved ones. I am sending you all much love.

  2. Oh Maria!

So good to hear from you, both in blog land and through email. I really admire your outlook on how things pan out. I'm so happy for you that your garden is full of fresh delights and freckles, can you believe people try to cover them up?!?! Just adorable! :) Really so excited that the original owners will actually be coming to party at their old stomping grounds. I'm sure it will be a beautiful party filled with happy memories. And your little outcast, how darling! Can't believe you found that in the dump!! *your house is really gorgeous by the way* I know I've probably mentioned this before, but ohhhh I would buy your home in a heartbeat if I could. :) (I just posted another home tour on my blog yesterday if you need some more eye candy, hehe... I mean, you said you wanted to move to Austin, right? :))

*blushing* thanks for my mention in this post. :) Take care and thank you so much for your sweetness.

    Talk to you soon!

    xoxo,
    Bonnie

  8. "It needs some work (and don't we all...)" - LOVE IT! Yes, I need work, and I feel like I've been in a dumpster for a couple of days but hopefully I'll find time to clean up this mess on the weekend. just one more day! As a freckle haver, I find it cute that you are enamored with his freckles. I remember trying to scrub mine off. Eventually I gave up and now I don't notice them anymore - until I get the occasional comment about my face looking like the map of Ireland. Whatever that means. Great to read a post from you - have a wonderful summer!

  9. Maria - it will be wonderful to see you here whenever you appear. I'm not deleting you from my Reader, nor your aesthetic from my mind's eye.

  10. Welcome back! You're right - things will work out exactly as they need to. Even if it seems to be taking forever!

That is a charming little cabinet! I would say it doesn't require *too* much work, I love it as is!

  11. Hello old friend!!

You have a wonderful mindset about the house selling. So many of us get so frantic... eat, sleep and dream of selling the house. It will happen when it happens. ;-D Love the cabinet and I am sure you will make it a special home somewhere. Will you be painting it? I couldn't tell the color.

Your Noah is precious, he has a darling little face. He will have a ball at school.

    Enjoy your summer, Maria!

  18. Hello Maria, as you, I've beem away from blogging too, but just came back. How wonderful you have your veggies and your beautiful son enjoying outside. Your house is absolutely gorgeous, and what a nice work you've done it. I'm sure Noah will be fine in Grade 1. I have a 5 year old here going to Kindergarten and he is very excited as well.
Wishing you all the luck with all your jobs: as a mom, a non profit, decorator, etc, etc...

  19. so good to hear from you :) sounds like life is in full swing! we have been busy here too with weddings and wedding-related festivities. and projects around the house of course.

maybe your house's destiny is for me and my hubby to move in when he is done with his PhD.. i'm thinking it's holding out for us ;)

p.s. i absolutely adore that turquoise lamp. it is so pretty! and that cabinet is such a great find! AND your son is adorable :) ok, i think that is enough for one comment!

  20. Hydrangea, sunflowers, and freckles, oh my! It sounds like life has been so full and rich for you. You're definitely right, everything happens for a reason, and things well certainly unfold just beautifully for you. As always, so happy to see a post from you! xxx

  21. Danielle - the cabinet does need a little love. One of the glass panels is broken and will have to be replaced, and the doors are stuck shut - so that will have to be addressed. But is IS lovely.

And Jane (@Blondie's Journal), the cabinet is painted an old off white paint - most likely with oil-based paint. I'll probably strip it and either leave it stripped and unfinished, or paint it again in a creamy white - using latex.

Marce - si, estas son todas fotos de mi casa.

Meg - I got that lamp at TJMaxx. Total impulse buy. But so worth it! :)

Thank you all for your thoughtful comments - I really appreciate each and every one of them. I promise to slowly try to make it to your spaces to see how life has been treating you lately.

    xoox,

I just love the history of your home, what a special thing you'll be doing this summer with the previous family. I'd love to hear the story later, hope you'll share.

Your tomatoes look pretty darn good too, Noah must be thrilled with the vegies and sunflowers:) It sounds like you have been a very busy bee. I still have all my fingers and toes crossed for you that your house sells sooner rather than later, but I so love your outlook on it all, as always you inspire me! And, I'm beginning to think that blogging is a Winter sport. :) I struggle to find a balance between enjoying the fresh air and sunshine and sitting in front of a computer screen. I believe you have made the right decision. Happy Summer

  31. That house will sell for sure - it looks handsome and easy to keep, which is crucial. And there's the karma of buying a house from one of the nicest women on the big wide Internet. Meanwhile, you're waiting in your measured happy way, which is the very thing to do.

  32. Hello Sweet Maria ~

You have been missed, but I completely understand about the lack of time during this glorious sunny season! I'm doing my best to keep up and visit, but I admit the mind is in vacation mode, so every single free moment I can find, I am with my lil' crumb outdoors! It's a must ~ a need to rejuvenate the soul!

Your images are divine, and the words about Noah's freckles, well, {gulp}, the best!

Enjoy this wonderful time of year!

    Bisous,
    Melissa

You put a big smile on my face, sweet lady. Thank you!

sending much love to all three of you,

  39. Your son is the same age and grade as mine. I was a bit sad when Kindergarten ended. I see first grade as no longer being a baby then I think about how time will zoom by and he'll be graduating highschool before I know it. I have to stop myself when I do that. Good luck on the sale of your home and have a great summer. I'll be back to welcome your return.

  44. Hi gorgeous, I have missed you and was so happy to see your comment pop up in my mailbox this morning. You have been on my mind so many times however like you, I too have been kept busy and away from the lovely Cyber world due to work and life in general.

Your post is so nice and full of relaxed, good energy - you seem happy and balanced, which needless to say makes me very happy too! xx

You write so beautifully about Noah and I know how you feel when you say he blows you away. I feel the same about Oscar and Isabella and carry an incredible pride and joy in my heart to be their mother and to be allowed to guide them towards adulthood. Is there any bigger blessing than children!?!

OK, I feel so much better having heard that all is well with you and that you are enjoying Summer, and what sounds like a divine garden busting with life and colour. (Noah must love the sunflowers!)

Big hugs to you dear friend and thanks for the update.

I am blogging much less this summer myself. I don't want my sweet children to remember me sitting with my back turned to them when the sun is out!

Always good to hear from you, though. Good luck with all your projects and let's chat soon.

I love when you talk about Noahs's freckles dancing around his face when he smiles. Now that is coming from a Mom with a great, warm heart!

  50. Oh my yes, we have been missing you but this is just life...we all seem more busy than we want to be! I wish you all the best as you wait for
the right offer or stay where you are. I wish I could have a smaller home but we have 3 sons and 5 dogs-we need the room! Our dogs are like our kids-they never want to be far from us and usually sleep on the kitchen or family room floors. I dream of a small cottage and have been
working on house plans on graph paper.
    Have a great summer!

That is such a testament to what a caring, open-hearted person you are. Your house is just as beautiful on the outside as I expected, and your son's little freckles are just adorable. I'm so happy for you that everything seems to be coming together for you, and you are so right in that the sale of the house will happen in the right way at the right time. Have a great weekend, Maria! xo
