I've been spending some time thinking, dreaming, living - simply being. I've been a little bit absent from the blog world, but I'm still here...
I've been embracing quiet time to myself instead, playing Legos with my little guy who just turned six (six!), and I've been taking long walks in the sunshine before the heat and humidity of the south chase me back indoors.
I thought I'd share with you a poem that a beautiful friend sent my way... I've been thinking a lot about this poem's words, and how we have much to learn from the gentler, nobler pace of nature. I hope you'll enjoy this as much as I did.
Tonight and always, I am wishing you all peace, dear friends. Be well.
The Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's life may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

"Forethought of grief" - it's what we do so well, and hardly ever does us any good. It's a very true and wise poem, and takes me out of the flurry of the Internet to the quieter place I should be in. When the news and blogging goings-on whirl about me, I think of you, Maria, and that you wouldn't stand for that. Happy birthday to Noah, and much happy Lego-building.
ReplyDeletemaria- thank you for sharing this poem. i read it last night and thought of it as i drifted off to sleep. it makes me want to read more wendell berry. i like how he thinks (and he's a kentuckian).

that's is a wonderful poem. Welcome back.
ReplyDeleteAh, this post was a breath of fresh air. I hold that poem close to my heart, and think of the lines often while taking quiet times for myself. Is there anything more refreshing than a walk in the woods, or really anywhere outside? Enjoy the peace :)
ReplyDeleteMaria you are the sweetest soul. Lovely poem my dear and a wonderful reminder to stop and to look at the simplest of things in nature, to let ourselves 'just be'. I am so happy to hear you have been enjoying quiet time and having fun playing Lego with Noah. I admire you so much for recognising when you need to step away and reconnect with yourself, nature and with your gorgeous family. Enjoy your quiet time my sweet friend ~ Tina xx

Happy Birthday to your little guy! It's wonderful that you're spending time with your son outside rather than facing the computer. That's so much more important. I am still finding a balance between my free time and blog. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
